Beginning with next year the Senior classes of the De Witt Clinton, Evander Childs, New Utrecht, Morris and Bushwick High Schools and the High School of Commerce will eliminate Friday evenings from their calendar of social events, according to assurances given at a conference held between Rabbi Herbert S. Goldstein, President of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations
of America, and representatives of the senior classes. The delegates at the conference also promised to exert their efforts to revise their schedule for the present year so that social events will not be held on Friday evenings. This effort will be made out of deference to the Jewish Sabbath.
The first of a series of meetings arranged to discuss the subject of family purity under the auspices of the Union, was held Sunday evening. November 11th, at the Talmudical Institute of Harlem and was addressed by Rabbis M.A. Kaplan, S. Hurwitz, A.I. Schuchatovitz and Herbert S. Gol dstein.
About fifty of the leading workers among Orthodox Jewish women attended the first meeting of the season arranged by the W Women’s Branch of the Union, at the Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue, Monday afternoon, November 12th. Amongh the activities planned for the coming year is intensive work along social and welfare lines among the students of the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theclogical Seminary (The Yeshivah). A committee, headed by Mrs. Bernard Revel, will meet Monday evening, November 19th, at the Central Jewish Institute, 125 East 85th Street, to work out the details of the work to be carried on at the Yeshivah.
