Fight to Reinstate Jewish Teacher

Charging that race prejudice and American Legion propaganda were responsible for the recent refusal of the New York City Board of Education to reinstate Benjamin Glassberg, dismissed high school teacher, the Committee on Academic Freedom of the American Civil Liberties Union petitioned Dr. Erank P. Graves, State Commissioner of Education, to reinstate him. The petition was signed by Professor Clarence R. Skinner of Tufts College, as Chairman, and by nine other members.

Glassberg at the time of his suspension in January, 1919, was a teacher of history in the Commercial Migh School of Brooklyn. He was suspended for alleged utterances of Bolshevist doctrines in the classroom.

In Novemeber, 1919, Glassber, 1919, Glassberg was dismissed by the Board of Education.

The Board of Education at its meeting on Oct. 8 last refused to review the evidence in the Glassberg case.
