Reform Congregations in New York Seek $150,000 Toward Union’s Budget

Congregations in New York affiliated with the Union of American Hebrew Congregations are now organizing campaigns to aid in raising New York’s quota of $150,000 towards the Union’s budget. There are twenty-six congregations in Greater New York affiliated with the Union. Conferences have been held with the Presidents and other officers during the past month, and arrangements are being completed for the launching of the campaign. Arthur Meyerowitz is in charge of the New York campaign.

Among the congregations which have already launched campaigns are: Central Synagogue, under the leadership of Rabbi Jonah B. Wise, and Max Schallek, president: West End Synagogue, under the leadership of Morris Magner, president, Mr. Martin Strauss, and Rabbi Nathan Stern; Temple Israel, under the leadership of Joseph Rosenzwelg, president, and David Livingston, secretary; Temple Beth Elohim of Brooklyn, under the leadership of Meler Steinbrink, president; Temple Beth Emeth of Brooklyn, Brooklyn, under the leadership of Meyer Yondorf, president, and Rabbi Samuel J. Levinson: Tremont Temple, under the leadership of Seymour Mork and Rabbi Irving F. Reichert: Temple Ahavath Sholom, Brooklyn, under the leadership of Leon Levin, president: Temple Israel of Far Rockaway, under the leadership of Benjamin Veit, president, and Rabbi Isaac Landman.

Other congregations which are raising funds for the Union include: Free Synagogue, Congregation Shaarei Zedek, Mt. Neboh Congregation, Temple Beth Elohim of Washington Heights, Temple Emanu-El of Yonkers, Sinal Temple of the Bronx, Park Avenue Synagogue, Bay Parkway Temple, Rodeph Sholem Congregation, Mr. Vernon Sinai Temple, Jewish Community Center of White Plains, Progressive Synagogue, Union Temple of Brooklyn, Congregation Emanu-El, Temple Israel of Jamaica, Fort Washington Synagogue, Temple of the Covenant, and Temple Israel of New Rochelle.
