Dr. Frieder, the Chief Public Prosecutor who conducted the proceedings on behalf of the Thuringian Government against Walter Loeb. ex-President of the Thuringian State Bank on fabricated charges of irregularities, of which he was acquitted after being persecuted for years, arrived here having fled from Germany, where proceedings were to be brought against him. He is enjoying the right of asylum here.

As far back as 1925 when the charges against Walter Loeb broke down, the Thuringian Government ordered disciplinary action to be taken against Dr. Frieder for having persisted in bringing forward a charge for which there was no foundation. The court which acquitted Herr Loeb also proposed that Dr. Frieder he, sent to prison for eighteen months and that he be deprived of his civil rights.

The trouble started with the return of a powerful anti-Semitic group at the Thuringian elections at the beginning of 1924. Herr Loeb. finding himself constantly subjected to attack in Parliament, resigned his position, and the Minister of Finance resigned with him. The new Minister of Finance ordered Herr Loeb to be arrested on charges of serious irregularities, and Dr. Frieder carreid on the proceedings against him.

The Thuringian State Bank was founded by Herr Loeb and in the first year of its existence, in addition to writing off all inventory, the bank brought in a net profit of over 21/2 million Gold Marks.
