Mr. David Bomberg, a prominent Jewish Palestinian artist, is among the exhibitors at the Canadian National Exhibition arranged by the Canadian Government now open here.
Mr. Bomberg went into the deserts of Transjordania travelling by donkey and camel. Several attempts were made upon his life by Bedouins. However, he succeeded in reaching Petra, where he stayed for six months, painting the great rock facades. The picture which he is showing at the Canadian National Exhibition is “The Rock Facade, North East Wall, Petra.”
When he exhibited in London a few weeks ago, showing many of his Palestine paintings, Lord Melchett and Sir Philip Sassoon, the British Assistant Air Minister were among the patrons, and Sir Ronald Storrs, who bought many of Bomberg’s paintings when he was Governor of Jerusalem, wrote the introduction to the catalogue. Bomberg has a war picture in the Government House in Toronto, and recently a picture of his “Outside Damascus Gate, Jerusalem,” was bought by the City of Manchester for its Art Gallery.
The thirty-sixth anniversary of Rabbi William Rosenau’s service at the Eutaw Place Temple, Baltimore, occourred on Friday. Dr. Rosenau is now on his way home from Europe. His congregation is planning a three-day celebration of its diamond jubilee in October.
