The Downtown Division of the United Palestine Appeal of Greater New York raised $35,850 for reconstruction work in Palestine at a meeting held last night at the Yiddish Art Theatre, on Fourteenth Street, at which time several one-act plays were also performed. The largest of the contributors, according to an announcement made by Mr. Jonah J. Goldstein, Chairman of the meeting, was Mr. Morris Eisenman, who gave $5,000.

The Downtown Division, which includes the East Side section, is making an effort to raise $75,000 this year for the rebuilding of Palestine toward New York’s quota of $1,500,000. Interest was aroused at the meeting by the announcement of two contributions from non-Jews toward the United Palestine Appeal. One was from P. B. Noyes, who gave $1,000, and George W. Wilcox, who also contributed $1,000.

Those who spoke at the meeting were Attorney-General Albert Ottinger, Chairman of the U. P. A. Campaign Committee for Greater New York; Dr. Nahum Sokolow, Chairman of the World Zionist Executive; Mr. Jonah J. Goldstein, Honorary President of the Downtown Palestine Appeal; and Mr. Abraham Goldberg, member of the Administrative Committee of the Zionist Organization of America.
