All five matzoth baking machines in the city of Fastov have been confiscated for industrialization. Praying shawls, phylacteries, Gemorahs and other religious books have now been collected throughout Ukrainia and will be sold as junk for the industrialization fund, which is to be used for the purchase of tractors. The Communist paper “Shtern’s” slogan is “convert praying shawls and phylacteries into tractors.” Special brigades of Jewish children are conducting house to house collections of these ritual objects and are even taking away the prayer books from the synagogues.
