A new vegetable market containing eighty-one shops is now under construction in Mahneh Yehuda, on the northwestern section of the Jaffa Road, an important shopping center of the city. Since the riots of last Summer, the Vaad Hair of Jerusalem (the board supervising kashruth) and the banks have assisted the small merchants by loans which are enabling them to carry out the project. Government representatives were present when the cornerstone of the market was laid today.
