A total of 305 Jews left the United States to settle in Palestine during the year 1929, according to a report issued by Robert Szold, chairman of the Zionist Organization of America, who made public the figures that have just been compiled by the Palestine government. These immigrants brought into Palestine a sum of capital exceeding $3,000,000, according to the report, which is being invested in orange plantations, building construction and mortgages.
Of the 305 Jews who left to assist the upbuilding of the Jewish National Home, 202 were in the category of what the Palestine government calls “capitalists.” The average capital of these men and women was $12,000.
The report shows that during 1929 approximately 7,000 Jews entered Palestine. Poland was first with 1971; Yemen, Arabia, second with 593. Russia provided 368 immigrants, Roumania 355, and the United States was fifth. Germany sent 283 Jews to Palestine during the year.
