Bulletin Will Not Appear Tomorrow and Wednesday. The Jewish Daily Bulletin will not appear on Succoth, Tuesday, Oct. 7th, and Wednesday, Oct. 8th.
Dr. Drummond Shiels, British under-secretary for the colonies who is here for a ten day visit, will receive the Arab Executive and the members of the Arab delegation that went to London last March on Wednesday when it is expected constitutional questions will be discussed. In this connection Aljamea Al Arabia, the organ of the Grand Mufti, discordantly hints that no committee or delegation is authorized to accept a constitutional settlement but the people themselves. According to the Mufti’s organ this means the Mufti and his clan.
Colonel Frederick Kisch of the Jewish Agency spent an hour with Dr. Shiels at the latter’s bedside and after the discussion expressed himself as satisfied with the course of the conversation. Although Dr. Shiels’ program has been affected by his sudden illness the Hebrew paper, Davar, points out that his itinerary does not include the Hebrew University or the Hadassah Hospital but it does provide for visits to many government and missionary institutions.
In an article designed to catch Dr. Shiels’ eye, Aljamea Al Arabia says that Great Britain will soon realize that Palestine can only be an Arab fatherland with “Jews and other aliens adapting themselves to an Arab atmosphere the same as they have adapted themselves to an English atmosphere in England, a German atmosphere in Germany and other atmospheres in other countries.”
The Mufti’s organ makes the above statement after pointing out that Great Britain has given up the attempt to make Palestine Jewish and is now “trying to make it bi-national.” The Christian-Arab paper, Falastin, addressing Dr. Shiels, voices the hope that he will recognize that Palestine is sacred to the Moslems and to the Christians, the Jews merely enjoying “wailing rights at the Wailing Wall before the Madate was promulgated.”
The Hebrew paper, Ha’Aretz, in an editorial directed to Dr. Shiels’ attention, hopes that after Dr. Shiels’ visit the British government will issue a statement on its Palestine policy that will contain something more than negative definitions and non-positive declarations not translatable into immediate action.
Dr. Shiels, who is here for a ten day visit during which time he hopes to gain a first hand knowledge of local conditions and to meet informally with the country’s leading official and non-official personalities, collapsed just before he was scheduled to visit the Wailing Wall on Saturday. He is now confined to bed with an intestinal disorder and high fever.
