Leonard M. Wallstein, counsel for the Citizen’s Union and former Commissioner of Accounts of New York City, has been appointed a Special Corporation Counsel to help in the fight which is being conducted by the municipal government of New York City for a reduction of the $12,500,000 condemnation awards which have been temporarily granted by Supreme Court Justice Dunne in the Rockaway Beach improvement. Mr. Wallstein’s appointment was approved by Mayor Walker and Corporation Counsel Hilly upon the recommendation of Max Tachna, attorney for a group of Rockaway civic organizations, who declared that Mr. Wallstein had been chosen because of his reputation as a diligent investigator and because of the services he had previously rendered to New York City.
Mr. Wallstein was born in New York City and is 46 years old. He is a director of the New York Guild for Jewish Blind. In 1925 he was a member of the Commission on the Reorganization of the New York State Government. He is also counsel for the Citizens’ Union.
