The French Report affords no basis for discussion, was the decision of the Actions Committee of the Zionist Organization now in session here, it became definitely known today. Previous unofficial reports had indicated that the Political Commission of the Actions Committee favored outright rejection of the French recommendations as being contrary to the terms of the Mandate and the spirit of the MacDonald letter.
The Actions Committee is instructing the Zionist Executive to submit detailed observations regarding its attitude and a full plan for the further development of Palestine.
The transfer of responsibility for educational work in Palestine from the Jewish Agency Executive to the Vaad Leumi was unanimously agreed upon at the plenary session of the Actions Committee today. The Agency will, however, contribute annually the sum of £40,000 towards the educational work. It had been generally believed that the Revisionists would oppose the transfer but no opposition developed.
In connection with the future educational work in Palestine the Actions Committee resolved to instruct the Executive to press the Government for an adequate subsidy. It was pointed out that the Government itself does not dispute the fact that the amount it is at present granting for Jewish education is insufficient and totally out of proportion to the amount Palestine Jews contribute in tax payments.
Dealing with the question of the budget the Actions Committee decided upon further drastic cuts. The various commissions are still at work but an effort is being made by all groups participating in the deliberations of the Actions Committee as well as the Jewish Agency to conclude their efforts as speedily as possible.
