Sixteen self-styled members of the Ku Klux Klan, who attacked a Jewish family, named Milder, at Long Beach, last month, were indicted on Wednesday afternoon by the Los Angeles County grand jury.
An indictment had been handed down early last week, but this was found to be defective, and it was only after a three hours conference between members of the Grand Jury and Superior Judge Elliot Craig that a secret conspiracy indictment was handed down.
Bond of $1,000 was asked for each of the sixteen indicted. David Milder, head of the family which was attacked on alleged charges that they were Communists, and other victims, criticized the action of the police at the Grand Jury hearing, asserting that the police had handled the victims roughly while they were very polite to the attackers.
Ku Klux Klan officials who were called to testify before the Grand Jury denied that a raid or an attack had been ordered and departed without giving any testimony.
