Standard Oil Tax for Yeshivoth, Talmud Torah Fund

The Standard Oil Company of New York, according to a joint statement issued by Jacob L. Andron, President of the Federation of Yeshivoth, and Isaac Allen, Chairman of the Federation of Talmud Torahs, has agreed to lend its support toward the upkeep of the Yeshivoth and Talmud Torahs of Greater New York by placing a stamp tax on all Yahrzeit Lamps and wax candles sold for religious purposes.

On each Yahrzeit Lamp the Standard Oil Company will affix a 2 cent stamp tax. On boxes of candles such as those used on Friday nights and on Chanukah the stamp tax will vary from one cent to ten cents, depending upon the number of candles in a box. The Standard Oil Company will turn directly over to the Torah Flnd of the Yeshivoth and Talmud Torahs all monies realized from the Stamp Tax.
