Leaders of the Jewish Welfare Federation of Detroit, at the annual meeting held here, revealed that plans are now in progress to build a new recreational center.
Clarence H. Enggass, president of the Federation, in his annual message, stated that sanction was given by the board of governors for the purchase of the site. He further stated: “The buildings which are now on the property will, with remodeling, furnish us with quarters that we believe will be adequate for some years to come. A move, which is under way to join both the Y.W.H.A. and Centers into one unit will, if effected, assist in the operation on a reduced budget and add to the efficiency of the services rendered.”
Speaking at the annual meeting of the Detroit Service Group, Henry Wineman, chairman of the board of governors of the Federation, expressed the hope that the union of the Y.W.H.A. and the Jewish Centers will soon be an accomplishment. Reference to the merger of the two boards and to the construction of a new recreational center was also made by Kurt Peiser, executive director of the Federation, in his address at the Service Group dinner.
Fifteen affiliated agencies submitted their reports, in addition to the reports of the Federation officers.
