Horace Samuel, well-known attorney who practiced in Palestine for several years and is now engaged in practice in London, has been approached to take over the defense of the three Revisionist extremists who are accused of the murder of Dr. Chaim Arlosoroff, noted Zionist labor leader, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency exclusively learned here. The defendants, Aba Achimeir, Zvi Rosenblatt and Abraham Stavsky, are now undergoing preliminary hearings and Mr. Samuel has been asked to defend them in the event they are committed for trial.
The murder of Dr. Arlosoroff took place on June 16 and with its subsequent developments has been one of the most sensational events in Palestine in recent years. The case has strong political aspects and conviction of the three men would have an important bearing on the entire Zionist program.
The defendants are members of the extreme right-wing Zionist group whose differences with the Labor Zionists have been expressed not only theoretically but in actual physical clashes.
Mr. Samuel is familiar with Palestine court procedure. He left the country in 1928 and wrote “Unholy Memories of the Holy Land,” in which he severely criticized the Palestine administration and the Zionist Organization. If he undertakes the defense, he will have to take up residence there in accordance with Palestine court requirements.
