Soviets Elect 40 Jews at Party Conference

About forty of the 292 leading officials elected by the seventeenth annual conference of -the Communist party are Jews. The majority of the forty will occupy minor positions, the only exceptions being Lazar Kaganowitch, elected as member of the Politbureau; Maxim Litvinoff, Commissar of Foreign Affairs; Yakir, commander of the Ukrainian army; Gamarnik, member of the Military Council, and Ruchomowitch, WoroshilofTs ‘assistant in the Don Basin coal district.
