More than $2,500 was raised at the second annual dinner-dance of the Congredation Sons of Israel of Woodmere. The money is to be used toward the construction of a new temple.
JEWS OF MIDDLE AGES PARTOOK OF CULTURE
The Jews of the middle ages took part in the cultural life of their time to a great extent, declared Dr. Solomon Grayzel, of Gratz College, Philadelphia, in an address to the Brooklyn Jewish Center, where he is delivering a series of weekly lectures.
“There was much about mediaeval civilization that attracted the Jews of that day,” he declared. “They did not remain insensitive to the beauty of the churstians put up, and in all likehood the Church regulations which forbade the Jews to construct beautitul synagogues was the most important factor in keeping the mediaeval synagogues modest. The Jews were attracted by the gageatry of feudalism, and those of them that could afford to act and live like the feudal nobles did so until the State, the Church, and more frequently the mob, prevented them,”
GIVES BENFIT DANCE
The entire floor show from the Tic Toc Club will be presented at the benefit dance of the Sullivan County Hotelmen’s Association, to be held at the 71st Regiment Armory Saturday, March 3. Rudy Vallee and his Connecticut Yankees will also be among the entertainers. Part of the proceeds of the affair will be given to the Jewish Theatrican Guild.
SISTERHOOD MEETING
The Jonior Sisterhood of Temple Ansche Chesed will open its first public meeting with Selma Stark speaking on “The Appreciation of Music,” on Tuesday at 2:30 P.M. at the Center. 100th street and West End avenue.
SERVICE LEAGUE AFFIR
The Service League of the Hebrew Home for Chronic Invalids will hold its annual supper dance and bridge at the Lismore Hotel on February 22. The proceeds will go to the home, located at 1776 Clay avenue, Bronx. Mrs. Lee M. Miner is president of the league.
