Nicolas Manos, government candidatel for mayor, was elected to that post today, mrkng a miserable defeat for th anti-Semitic group. which polled but 757 votes in all out of a total of 38,000.

anouncement of the results of the election evoked stormy scenes and were greeted in a number ofplaces withshouts of “Down with the Jews!”

The anti-Semitic press has come out with characteristic comments on the election, Makedonia declaring that “we shall settle our account with the Jews, who are themselves responsible for any thing which may happen to them.”

The failure of th EEE(Etnikl Enosis Eladis), the recentlyformed anti-Semitic party which had carried on a strong campaign for its candidate, resulted in an increase of rowdyism adn a busing of the Jews. The followers of ex-Premier Venizelos supported the infuriated elemnets, although the Liberals are now officially not associated with the EEE and recently denounced them a monarchist traitors preparing a dictatorship.
