an attempt to picket in fornt of the Bavarian Film Exchange 489 Fifth avenue, distrubutors of the Nazi progapanda film, “S. A Mann Brand,” by the Film and Photo League of New York City was frustrated yesterday affernoon after the participants had begun to unfurl several placards denouncing the picture when police demanded a permit to hold the demonstration and the permit was not forhthcoming.

Arriving at 12:30, about a score of men stationed themselves in front of the building and began their show. After police cautioned them they dispersed. the spokesman for the group, Samuel Brody, later asserted that a premit had been obtained and that the demonstrators, in greatly augmpted numbers, would return today at noon and resume where they had left off.

Charies Hertlitz is the reputed head of the Babarian Film Exchange, The Exchange recieves mail and phone messages at the Fifth avenue addres but has no office there, it was learned, Poscards denouning th Nazi film have been sent to Hertlitz. Also received were phone calls from several Yorkville movie houses relative to the showing of the film in this city, which at present i being exhibited in the West.

According to persons who winessed the film in Berlin it slanders Jews and depicts Nazis as “snow -white” angels. Heard in many places of the film is the Nazi cry “Juda Verrecke!” meaning perish Jewry.

It is claimed by the Film and Photo League that the picture has already been exhibited privately in this city of Nazi sympathizers, and that at present it is being shown in several cities throughout the country. The League asserts that the film is slated to open sometime this month at a prominent Broadway theatre.
