When Goering appointed himself head of the Gestapo in Prussia, Hitler imediately promoted Himmler to a similar post in Bavaria. Other states, Wuertemberg, Baden, Hessen, were coerced into making Himmler haed of their Gestapo until today Himmler has compete cotrol of the organization except in Prussia.

It is th task of Gestapo not only to combat anti-Fascism within adn outside of the Reich, but also to spy on th National Socialist leaders. Perhpas, since th Gestapo has gone at its work with thoroughness, the opening of these archives at some date in the fufure will reveal the full tale of duplicity, treachery and scandal which marked the rise of the Nazis to power, to an extent not even the bitterest foes of the Nazi Party would dare to suggest.

Moshe Shertok, youthful and brilliant member of the Jewish Agency executive at Jerusalem, recently was called into court as a witness in case but declened to take oath on the Torah declaring that to do so was in contradiction to his philosophy of life an that hsi word of honor should suffice.

Many Jewish newspapers have commented on Mr. shertok’s attitude. one paper pointining out that even if Shertok were an atheist he shold not have hesitated to take oath on the Torah. whether one avows that he states the truth by referring to his honor or whether noe lays a hand on the oldest law book, which proclaims a duty towards truthfulness, shold be a matter of indifference even to a non-believer.

Shertok’s attitude raises once more the question: is one a Jew if one does not confess to the Jewish religion, or is one a Jew if noe confesses to the Jewish religion but does not belong to the Jewish race?

A director of a higher school for learning in Berlin who recently visited a church with a group of his students asked the priest to delete the “Hallelujah” from the luturgy. Otherwise,he explained, he would have to leave with his chares. The priest, however, declined to remove the offending word and the director and his pupils left the church.

Die Kirchenmukik, official journal of the Evangelical Chruch music, while expressing appreciation that “German soil is being freed from the contaminating chemical influence of Jeuness Juive in literarture, art, music, theatre society, economic life, etc., deplored in a recent issue ,the fact, that school heads object to the “Hallelujah,” which, the publication explains i derived from the old German Runenschrift.

According to Hermann wirth, the old Nordic nations called the god of the year differently according to eache season. Thus, in Spring, he was “El”; in Summer, “IH,”in Winter “UT”. and in he autumn season”Al.” These names are derived recerseldy from La. Le. LI.Lo.Lu which refer tothe world fo valhalla. One might mention here Herder’s trio, Licht, Liebe and Leben (Light, Love. Life). All this the school people ahold know before objecting to “Hallelujaj.”

The Jeudische Rundshau, of Berlin, however, remarkes that “Hallelujah” is a Hebrew word the meaning of which “praise God” It is an expression of exuberant thanks to God, joyous acclamtion of life and faith in the creator. Luther, in his trauslation of the Bible, left this word untranslated. It was thus that similar words, as “Amen,” became familiar in the German tongue.
