Women’s Ass’n to Meettofight Nazi Efforts

One of the largest women’s meeting in the history of the Bronx Jewish community will be held this afternoon at Concourse Piaza Hotel, when 1,200 women, prominently identified with communial life, assemble to organize to combat Nazi propaganda in this counrtry.

The meeting will take the form of a tea and reception where formal organization of a unit to be identified with the Women’s Association of the American Jewish cogress will be made.

The spread of Nazi propaganda and the need for organization will be described by Dr. Stephen S. Wise, honorary president ofthe American Jewish Congress, who will be the guest fo honor and principal speaker. Mrs. George Lion Cohen, a member of the national executive committee of the Women’s Association will b an other speaker. Harry Hershfield will be master of ceremoneis, with a musical program offered by Willie Robyn of Roxy’s radio gang.

The tea has been arranged by th Bronx Division of the Women’s Association of the American Jewish Congress of which Mrs. Ruth Levien is chairman.

This afternoon’s undertaking is part o a nationwide effort to organze Jewish women for self-edfense work, under the auspices of the Women’s association of the American Jewish congress headed by Mrs. Stephen S. Wise. Mrs. Bernard S. Deutsch, wife of the President of the Board of Aldermen, who heads the American Jewish Congress, is national chairman of th endeavor. Mrs. Wise and Mrs. Deutsch will be among the guests of honor at the tea.

TOLSTOY AND SHAW VIEWS ON JEWS TOLD IN BERNSTEIN’S TALK

Both Tolstoy and Shaw were ouspoeken in their discussion of the Jewish problem, according to Herman bernstin, editor of the Jewish Daily Bulletin, speaking over station WEVD last night in the Bulletin’s weekly program.

Tolstoy declared that “all people are equal,” Mr. Bernstein said “We often dislike more those whom we harm than those who harm us. The Russians disliked the Jews because they tortured the Jews,” the Russian writer was quorted as explaining.

“Shaw,” Mr. Bernstein declared, “described the Jewish question as due to the Jew’s integrity, to his business ability, to his sents of fairness, to his intelligence, to his hard work. And he believed that the deep-rooted prejudice against the Jew continued developing because the non-Jewish world did not pause to analyze its unfounded prejudece.” Shaw said he thought that “Mecaulay was right when he said that it you started a preudice againts re-headed people there would soon develop a general hatred of them, and they might be massacred.”

The Jewish Welfare Board announces the annual meeting of th National council, to take place all day February 25 at the 92nd Street Y. M. H. A. Judge Irving Lehman and Dr. Cyrus Adler will particpate in the program.
