An honor roll of distinguished German Jews who paid the extreme penalty as victims of Hitler’s barbarism is among the features of the American Jewish Year Book for the year 5695. The new book is the thirty-sixth in a series published annually by the Jewish Publication Society of America.
The Year Book also contains a list of scholars and teachers ousted from German professional posts and now connected with educational institutions in foreign countries. An article recounting discussions of minority and refugee questions at the 1933 Assembly of the League of Nations also deals with the subject of Germany.
Tribute is paid to two Jewish scholars and teachers, Hyman Gerson Enelow and George Alexander Kohut, in articles by Rabbi David Philipson of Cincinnati and Professor Alexander Marx of New York City.
Another article, a comprehensive critical analysis of the Jewish community federation, written by Dr. B. M. Selekman, executive director of the Associated Jewish Charities of Boston, is a study of the weaknesses and strength of the Federation, particularly in time of economic stress.
Along with all the usual features of the Year Book is included an index to the preceding thirty-five volumes.
The Archive of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency includes articles published from 1923 to 2008. Archive stories reflect the journalistic standards and practices of the time they were published.
