In order that they may not be in rivalry with the established government theatre groups in Wolhynia, Yiddish theatre troupers have been forbidden to visit cities in that region, a report in a local newspaper states.
Similar restrictions were imposed several years ago in the Kalisz and Szestochowa districts, in the attempt thus to force Jews to attend the Polish theatre. Ironically enough, it is Wolhynia which gave the modern Yiddish theatre the pronunciation it uses.
