If Jewish motion picture producers refuse to heed the hand-writing on the wall and insist on producing obscene films in the face of the public’s objection, they will inevitably forfeit their right to sympathetic consideration by their co-religionists, in the opinion of Jack H. Skirball, general sales manager of Educational Films Corporation of America.
Speaking before 150 members and guests of the women’s organization of the Free Synagogue at its annual open luncheon and meeting in Synagogue House, 40 West Sixty-eighth street, yesterday afternoon, Mr. Skirball, a former rabbi, said:
“I believe enough warning has been given to moving picture producers against obscenity, and I think we would be doing ourselves a great harm as Jews by defending our co-religionists if they refuse to give ear to that warning.”
A MAJOR PROBLEM
Pointing out that Jews hold a commanding position in the motion picture industry and for that reason present a major problem to American Jewry as an entity, the speaker declared that in his opinion the chief difficulty lies in the fact that producers “don’t realize their own power.”
