That an economic crisis in Palestine is imminent is predicted today in the London Times in a lengthy review of the Palestine situation.
The Jewish immigrants are arriving in Palestine faster now than they can be economically disposed of, the Times states. They are congesting the cities. At the same time land speculation in Palestine continues on the craziest scale, causing grave anxiety even among responsible Zionists.
The Times warns against the “inflated prices” which prevail in Palestine and declares that they are a serious handicap to the future development of the country.
“The Palestine government does not yet expect an economic setback in the country on account of the flow of capital, but it is nevertheless prepared with a program for public works in every eventuality,” the article discloses.
The Times points out that it is noticeable that complaints against restriction of Jewish immigration into Palestine have been less vehement recently. The German Jews who arrive in Palestine have a stabilizing influence there, it observes.
The article concludes with a pessimistic note as to the possibility of solving the problem of Arab-Jewish relations.
