“Germany is now asking for proper treatment herself by the nations of the world,” he said. “But when she asks for equity she must be ready herself to deal equitably with others. Like that old maxim in the law of equity, she must come to us with clean hands if she desires justice for herself.”
“I hope,” he concluded, “that in the negotiations taking place between this great empire and the German rulers, they will be given to understand how abhorrent is their type of action to the British people.”
