More than 75,000 Jewish and semi-Jewish enterprises will pass into “Aryan” hands under the present policy of the Reich government, the German press reported today. The average value of these enterprises was estimated at 30,000 to 40,000 marks (the mark was valued at 40.33 cents in yesterday’s market), according to official statistics quoted in newspapers throughout the country.
With the German press carrying on an intense campaign for the ousting of Jews from the economic life of Germany, the Voelkischer Beobachter, Reichsfuehrer Hitler’s personal organ, focused its attention on the fur trade today, urging a boycott of Jewish firms in this industry.
The Beobachter stated that a special bureau has been established in Berlin “for enlightening Aryans” on the necessity for the anti-Jewish boycott.
The newspaper publishes what purports to be the text of a law issued in Berlin prohibiting Jews from engaging in the fur trade.
The question of the re-employment of “Aryan” maids forced to leave their positions in Jewish homes as a result of the legislation enacted by the Reichstag at Nuremberg Sept. 15, is causing a great deal of worry to Employment Exchange officials, it was learned today. In this city, several maids were given special permission to retain their jobs in Jewish homes until April, although under the law they are supposed to leave by next Jan. 15.
In the province of Westphalia, the Nazi press is appealing to “Aryans” to give preference to maids leaving Jewish homes in employing household help as a measure of loyalty to the Nazi decree.
