The National Labor Committee for Palestine closed its eleventh annual convention yesterday, setting a $250,000 quota for its 1936 drive and adopting a resolution asking for a boycott of the Olympic games. More than 1,300 delegates representing 487 organizations with a total membership of 500,000 were present at the Astor Hotel for the convention.
The budget is the largest ever authorized. Half of it was pledged on the convention floor. Proceeds will be used to aid labor settlements in Palestine.
The closing session was marked by a number of speeches defending the Palestine-Germany transfer agreement. Speakers upheld it as the only way to save the capital of the German Jews from falling into the hands of the Nazis. Berl Locker of the World Zionist Executive denied charges by B. C. Vladeck, general manager of the Jewish Daily Forward, that the Zionist Organization receives a twelve per cent commission on transfers.
Six officers of the campaign were re-elected and two new ones named. Those re-elected are: Joseph Schlossberg, chairman; David Pinski, co-chairman; Max Zaritsky, treasurer; Morris Finestone, administrative committee chairman and Isaac Hamlin, secretary. Julius Hochman and Alexander Kahn were elected co-chairman.
