German exports to Palestine rose sharply in the first six months of this year, figures announced today reveal. Exports for that period were valued at 1,082,000 marks as compared to 859,000 marks for the first six months of 1934.
Imports from Palestine at the same time were slashed in half during the first half of the year, dropping from 593,000 marks in 1934 to 248,000 in 1935.
The increase in German exports to Palestine is believed directly traceable to the Palestine-Germany barter agreement, through which German Jews emigrating to Palestine are enabled to withdraw a portion of their capital in the form of German goods.
