The Zionist General Council protested today against the abandonment of the absorptive capacity principle of Palestine immigration as seriously affecting the economic and political situation and serving as encouragement to Arab terrorists.
The 100 Zionist leaders from many parts of the world, concluding a six-day session, recorded in a resolution last night their demand that the former immigration criterion be restored, asserting that arbitrary restriction contradicted the Palestine mandate and the League of Nations Council’s resolution of 1930.
Supporters and opponents of the political resolution adopted by the 1937 Zionist Congress in Zurich are unequivocably opposed to any attempt to restrict the Jews to the position of a minority in the Holy Land, stated the Council, which is the highest Zionist authority between biennial congresses.
The Council also announced opposition to any action by anti-Zionists against the principle of a Jewish State, demanded a fuller share for the Palestine Jews in defense against terrorism and urged the British Government to implement a definite policy consistent with its obligations to the Jewish people. The Zionists emphasized the urgent need for adequate Government action for municipal works in Palestine to stimulate employment.
