With the Jewish share in Germany’s clothing industry already reduced from 75 to 20 per cent, Adefa, union of the “aryan” clothing industry today climaxed an anti-Jewish drive with a mass meeting at which progress of the “Aryanization” campaign was reviewed. Among the principal speakers was Nazi district leader Karl Holtz, editor of Derstuermer, Julius Streicher’s rapidly anti-Semitic weekly.
While at the. end of last year approximately one third of6,500 textile firms were still in Jewish hands, 900 more concerns were “Aryanized” this year. it is expected that 20 to 50 per cent of the remaining 1,100 firms owned by Jews will be “Aryanized,” while the remainder will simply be liquidated.
According to the Juridical Weekly, about MO Jews half of them from Austria, are affected by the purge of lawyers who specialize in patents. at least 1,753 Jewish lawyers in old Germany and 700 in Austria will be deprived of their livelihood next month when the ban on Jewish lawyers goes into effect. In addition to these, 1,500 non-veterans and those not admitted to practise before ‘9!4 have been disbarred since 1933 in old Germany. more than a 1,000 Jewish lawyers were barred from practice in Austria after Anschluss last March.
