The Jewish Colonization Committee, of which Chief Rabbi Moses Schorr is chairman, appealed to the Intergovernmental Refugee Committee today to consider the question of the “natural emigration needs of Polish Jewry” at its London session opening Jan. 26. a memorandum to the committee made the following points: (1) Jewish emigration from Poland, stopped in its natural growth, must be resumed; (2) Palestine must be regarded first among important outlets for Jewish emigration and other territories should be discussed only if Palestine is unable to solve the problem; (3) Jewish emigration from Poland is only a link in the international Problem of Jewish emigration.
All Zionist groups but he General Zionist “B” have issued a joint declaration disassociating themselves from the Colonization Committee, stating that the latest tragic events and the acute refugee problem “are another proof of the Zionist thesis that the problem of Jewish homelessness can be solved only by Palestine, the only country where Jewish mass immigration is possible.” It called upon Polish Jewry to concentrate its energies on defense of Palestine rights together with the fight for equality of rights in Poland, against discrimination and forced emigration.
