Capt. Gershon Levi, first Jewish chaplain to be commissioned with the Canadian armed forces, has arrived in the United Kingdom, the War Efforts Committee of the Canadian Jewish Congress announced today. Capt. Levi, senior Jewish chaplain with the Canadian forces, was appointed in March, 1941. He is the first Jewish chaplain to go overseas from Canada.
Praise for the Jewish officers and soldiers in the Canadian armed forces was voiced today at a luncheon in his honor here by Colonel S. Echenberg, commander of Military District No. 4 District Depot. He said that he could think of nothing better for himself than to commend a unit composed mainly of Jewish officers and soldiers of the type he had met in the Canadian Army.
