The complaint that anti-Semitic elements in England are becoming bolder is voiced today in the London Daily Express. The paper states that in recent months it has received “more fanatical, obscene anti-Jewish letters” than ever before. It calls upon the authorities to take stricter measures against anti-Semitic groups, charging them with conducting fifth-column activities by disseminating propaganda against Jews which is helpful to the enemy.
Addressing the Council for Education in Citizenship today, Sir Wyndham Deeds, former Palestine Government official who has been active in refugee relief work here, similarly complained of the increased anti-Jewish propaganda in England. “Don’t imagine that there is no anti-Semitism in Britain,” he said, “Our attitude is by no means such that we can stand before the world with clean hands. One of the results of the anti-Semitic propaganda is that people have obtained the impression that there are more Jews in the country than there really are.”
