A positive program to prevent tuberculosis from becoming a serious post-war problem is recommended by the National Jewish Hospital at Denver, pioneer free medical center for the tuberculous poor, in the institution’s 43rd annual report released at its regional headquarters here today by Dr. Charles J. Kaufman, medical director of the hospital.
The report discloses that each year a number of refugee physicians are selected from applicants and awarded a one year residency at the hospital which includes maintenance and a personal allowance. Through this help they have become familiar with American medical practice and after completion of their residency find places in communities where their services are needed and welcomed. Several of these physicians have stayed at the hospital to become part of its permanent medical staff.
