Nazi occupational authorities in Holland have issued an order forbidding the Jewish Council of Amsterdam to make house-to-house collections even among Jews in the Amsterdam ghetto, it was reported in Netherland circles here today.
The Jewish Council, which maintains all Jewish charitable institutions in the ghetto, will now depend exclusively on payments for services rendered. By limiting the income of the Council to this source, the Nazi authorities hope to secure more control over the funds of the central Jewish body, since, unlike funds raised by house-to-house collections, payments for services must be entered in official records.
