The British people, the average English worker and soldier, are shocked by the situation of the Jews in Europe and would enthusiastically welcome any measures taken to relieve their plight, Congressman Will Rogers Jr., California Democrat, declared today at a press conference here following his return from Britain where he saw high British officials and Jewish leaders on behalf of the Emergency Committee to Save the Jewish People of Europe.
Rep. Rogers said that he feels, however, that it is up to our own Government to take the initiative and to institute proper action to save the helpless Jews of Europe, and that “it is up to the American people to see to it, without fail and without delay, that the Government does not continue to ignore this problem.” He also expressed the opinion that many British statesmen are dissatisfied with the Government policy which rigidly restricts Jewish immigration to Palestine.
