Wives of Jewish servicemen called a sit-down strike before the office of the District Commissioner here yesterday to protest the closing of military workshops for the repair of uniforms where they had been employed. After remaining in front of the Commissioner’s office all day, the women were informed that the workshops would not be reopened because of the high cost of repairing the garments and because of the great distance from the front.
The Association of Vegetable Growers issued a statement today declaring that the price ceilings recently set by the government make it impossible for them and the retail dealers to remain in business. They expressed a desire to cooperate with the government, but requested that “reasonable” prices be set. Unless this is done, the statement threatened, the population of Palestine will be without vegetables.
