Philip M. Raskin, noted Jewish poet, died last night at his home, following a long illness. He was the author of 10 volumes of poetry in English, Hebrew and Yiddish which were published in England and in the United States. A number of his poems were included in recent anthologies, and selections of American poetry. He was 63 years old.
Born on December 24, 1880, in Shklov, Russia, where he received his secular and traditional Hebrew education, Raskin also studied for a time in Zurich, Switzerland. He then came to England where he continued his studies and was for a number of years a member of the staff of the Health Department of the City of Leeds, Yorkshire. In 1915 he emigrated to the United States. Several years after his arrival in the United States, he joined the staff of the Jewish National Fund in whose behalf he travelled and lectured widely. He was a member of the JNF staff when he died.
