Dr. Ernest Martin Hopkins, president of Dartmouth College, who endorsed and defended the quota system under which the number of Jewish students in Dartmouth is arbitrarily limited, has resigned, but the status of the quota system is still unclear.

However, it is understood that a statement on the question will be issued by Dr. Hopkins prior to Nov. 1, when the new president, John Sloan Dickey, director of the State Department’s Office of Public Affairs, takes over.
