Yiddish can now be used in letters sent from Brazil as a result of the government’s lifting of the ban on the use of foreign languages during the war.
Although publication of newspapers in Yiddish is still prohibited here, a new Jewish weekly entitled “Journal Israelita,” made its appearance on Rosh Hashonah. It is printed in Portuguese.
Local synagogues were filled with worshippers over the week-end as Brazilian Jews gave thanks for the victory and peace which have been achieved by the United Nations.
