The 100th anniversary of the founding of Congregation Achduth Vesholom here is being celebrated by a special fourteenth series of sermons devoted to the theme of “Religion at the Crossroads Today,” it was announced by Dr. Frederic A. Doppelt, spiritual leader of the congregation.
Pointing out that the temple was the first synagogue established in the state of Indiana, and the second oldest in the midwest, Dr. Doppelt said that “during its one hundred years of service, the Congregation has ever sought to translate the faith of Israel into a way of life for African Israel by keeping abreast of the times and keeping pace with advance in the realm of religious thought.”
Dr. Julian Morgenstern, who recently retired as president of Hebrew Union College, will preach the final sermon in the centenary series on May 7 on the subject of “The Future of Reform Judaism in the United States.”
