Foreign Secretary Ernest Bevin succeeded today in persuading a special Cabinet meeting to delay Britain’s de facts recognition of Israel.
Contending that the Brussels pact nations–France, Britain, The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg–should act together, Bevin persuaded the Cabinet to agree to further action until after a meeting of the five-nation representatives in London on Thursday.
It is learned that unless the Parliamentary debate tomorrow forces a change, Britain’s recognition of Israel will have political strings attached to it and will generally be carried out with little good grace.
