Dr. Gerhard Stahlberg, West German Consul General, issued a statement here denying that he ever was a member of the Nazi Party or aided in the persecution of Jews.

Replying to charges printed in Germany, Dr. Stahlberg asserted that he refused to join the Nazi Party because he was opposed to Hitler’s attitude towards law and justice. As a result, he said, he was kept in a minor position throughout the Nazi regime. He pointed out that his name was not mentioned in a probe of Bonn’s Foreign Service, conducted by a special committee of the West German Parliament.
