Forty New York Jewish students participated in the 1953 Jerusalem Examinations for Proficiency in Hebrew given throughout the world yesterday, it was announced today by Judah Lapson, secretary of the World Union for Jewish Education. In New York the tests were administered at Hebrew University House.
The test, which is given under the joint sponsorship of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the World Union, is similar to the Cambridge Proficiency Examination in English, which has for many years served as a standard for English proficiency in non-English-speaking countries. Applicants who pass the examination receive proficiency certificates signed by officials of the Hebrew University, World Union for Jewish Education and the Israel Government. Certificate award presentation ceremonies will be held in the fall.
