The Philadelphia Jewish Community Relations Council and the police authorities here are jointly investigating a “Molotov cocktail” attack on the synagogue of Congregation B’nai Mannaseh last week.
Morris Goldberg, a passerby, saw a group of 15-16 year old youths hurl a can containing burning rags through the window of the synagogue. He shouted and attracted the attention of Usher Grossman, a vice-president of the synagogue, and Jacob Zatken. The three men entered the synagogue, removed the “fire bomb” and extinguished it outside. Meanwhile, one of the pews had caught fire and firemen called to the scene put it out. Mr. Grossman suffered minor burns on one hand.
