The American Jewish Congress today urged a series of legislative actions, at a public hearing of the New York State Democratic Committee, to strengthen civil rights and civil liberties in New York State.

Democratic Party support was urged for proposals to exempt from the state Sunday closing law persons observing a day other than Sunday as their Sabbath and to give the State Commission Against Discrimination power to curb discrimination in private housing.
