Campaign Against Jews Renewed in Morocco; King Invites Arab League

A renewed campaign against Moroccan Jewry has been started during the weekend in the Moroccan press which carries a report that about 120 Jews have allegedly left Morocco since the recent death of King Mohammed V, it was reported here today from Casablanca.

Newspapers in Morocco unfriendly to Jews are blowing up this report saying that the emigrated Jews are now in Marseilles. Even one of the government newspapers joined in the anti-Jewish noise charging the Jews with “betraying their homeland. “

The renewed anti-Jewish campaign coincided with the arrival in Morocco of Abdel Khalek Hassouna, secretary-general of the Arab League, who was received by King Hassan II, the new ruler. Reports reaching here from Morocco state that the young Moroccan King proposed to the Arab league leader that the next meeting of the Arab League be held in Morocco. The latter was understood to have accepted the proposal.

Meanwhile the League official declared in an interview with the Istiqlal party newspaper, AI Alam, that the recent Baghdad conference had shown that the Arabs were now able “to challenge Israel. ” He also said the League was considering organization of a conference of Arab leaders but gave no further details.
