Nachman Shtarkes, the elderly Orthodox Jew who was sent back to Jail for failing to produce his long-missing grandson, Yossele Schumacher, began a hunger strike today to obtain his release.

The grandfather, who was reported to be very ill, was visited in his cell by a doctor. It was indicated that if his condition worsened, he would be transferred to the prison hospital.

Meanwhile, two members of the Agudat Israel settlement, Komemiut, who were recently detained for questioning in the disappearance of the boy, were released and returned to their village.
